Andrew Simpson was a gold and silver Olympic medallist, an America’s Cup professional and an all round fantastic man who was tragically killed in a training accident on San Francisco Bay in May 2013.
Andrew, or ‘Bart’ to his friends, was the person that everyone turned to for guidance, from beginners to people at the top of their game. Supporting the next generation was something he was extremely passionate about.
Founded by Sir Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy OBE & Andrew’s wife Leah, the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation will work to honour Andrew’s life and legacy by encouraging youngsters into sailing.
Cowes Week Limited (CWL) and Aberdeen Asset Management are working in partnership to appoint an official charity for the world-famous regatta, Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week. The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation has been shortlist and we need your votes.
In Bermuda this October Team BART took part in the Argo Group Gold Cup to promote the work of the Foundation and continue Andrew’s legacy. Bart was there back in 2008 at the Junior Gold Cup coaching and mentoring the Optimist squad, as well as coaching Ben Ainslie & Iain Percy in the Argo Group Gold Cup itself.
The Bart Project was set up in honour of the great daddy Andrew 'Bart' Simpson so that his sons, Freddie and Hamish, can feel closer to him as they grow.
The worldwide community who miss Andy are contributing visual media, anecdotes and memories and we hope this will continue for a long time - everyone can contribute, no matter how small or insignificant you think your contribution would be. This means you!
